International Women’s Day offers an important opportunity to honour the women who continue to shape Zimbabwe’s social and economic landscape. This year, the Deposit Protection Corporation (DPC) celebrates the resilience, leadership, and innovation of women, acknowledging their central role in strengthening communities and driving national development.
Women remain at the heart of Zimbabwe’s financial inclusion agenda. Although notable progress has been made, many women, especially those in rural and underserved areas, continue to face barriers such as limited financial literacy, restricted access to digital tools, lower income levels, and long distances to formal financial institutions. Despite these challenges, women are among the most active participants in informal savings groups, micro‑enterprises, and community financial networks, demonstrating strong financial discipline and a commitment to economic stability.
Expanding women’s access to formal financial services, including savings accounts, mobile money, micro‑insurance, and credit, strengthens families and communities. When women are financially empowered, they invest more in education, healthcare, and household wellbeing. Their participation in the digital finance ecosystem also enhances economic independence and reduces reliance on informal, unsecured methods of saving.
Digital financial services have become a critical enabler of inclusion, offering women safer, faster, and more convenient access to financial tools. Mobile money platforms and digital banking have created new pathways for financial participation, particularly for women who balance multiple responsibilities at home and work.
The Deposit Protection Corporation plays a vital role in this journey by building trust in the financial system. By protecting depositors’ funds in member institutions, DPC promotes confidence, encourages saving, and supports long-term participation in the formal financial sector. For women entering banking for the first time, deposit protection provides the security and assurance needed to engage fully with financial institutions.
As Zimbabwe continues its drive toward a more inclusive economy, DPC recognizes and celebrates the contributions of women across the financial sector, from leadership and governance to consumer protection and financial literacy. Their work strengthens institutions and advances national goals for inclusive, sustainable development.
Strong women build strong communities.
Today, we celebrate the women shaping the next generation.
Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at the Deposit Protection Corporation.
